Legacy Replacements
Abbott Technologies designs and manufactures form-fit-function (FFF) replacements for obsolete, discontinued, and unsupported power supplies, transformers, and magnetics.
Abbott Technologies designs and manufactures form-fit-function (FFF) replacements for obsolete, discontinued, and unsupported power supplies, transformers, and magnetics.
Replacements are produced to the original mechanical and electrical interfaces, regardless of the original manufacturer, and delivered under full configuration control. Whether a product has been discontinued, a last-time buy has lapsed, or an original manufacturer no longer provides support, Abbott offers a qualified source of supply for the fielded envelope and resolves diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS) without modification to the surrounding system.
Approach
Replacements are delivered to customer specification or from Abbott’s own designs. Where a source-control or specification control drawing (SCD) defines the requirement, Abbott engineers, qualifies, and produces a compliant unit. Where no customer data package exists, or where a qualified standard product provides a lower-risk baseline, Abbott can adapt one of its own designs to reproduce the original form, fit, and function. Both paths yield hardware that installs in place of the original and is supported for the remaining life of the platform.
An Established Capability
The LPS and LPD linear series were introduced in response to widespread end-of-life across legacy 60 Hz and 400 Hz linear power supplies A design library of more than 11,000 non-standard magnetics and more than 1,000 non-standard power supply designs represents decades of building to externally defined interfaces, the discipline an FFF replacement requires.
Qualifications
- Complete in-house design at the circuit, component, and board level, for power supplies and magnetics alike
- Standard products qualified to MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1399, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-810, available as qualified baselines
- Participation in the Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) for DMSMS and counterfeit-parts data
- Obsolescence management built in, with a standing commitment not to obsolete Abbott products without full consideration
To evaluate a replacement, provide the applicable part number or National Stock Number with the available interface and specification data. Contact our engineering group or submit the power supply or magnetics design form.
